Nothing by Drew Gulliver

Honestly, most of this song is just a story that I made up out of my own overreaction. A story about betrayal and deception. A relationship that is flawless from the outside, but really one sided on the inside. One person knows that they have something special, maybe even too special. And the other person knows that it’s all just an act. It’s just a show that they’re putting on to keep things nice and peachy until they’re ready to throw the relationship away for the next one. Constant confirmation comes from the deceptive party by saying “so be loved” over and over again. Because the other person knows some part of this is too good to be true, they need those words of confirmation in order to feel secure. That need gives enough room for the deception to soak through the skin, filling their veins with hope and comfort, only to be torn from their system by the eerie silence where their comfort used to lie: on the other end of the words “I love you”.

The personal experience that inspired this song is actually pretty comical and not nearly as dramatic or insightful as the song itself. It was inspired by my social awkwardness and my inability to keep my thoughts to myself. It was my junior year of highschool. I was stupidly infatuated with my boyfriend at the time. It was just a normal day until he approached me to give me a gift. I have no clue what it was. I’m almost positive it was food, if not a KitKat… oh man, now I want a KitKat. Because I absolutely love food and can’t hold my tongue ever I blurted out “OH MY GOSH I LOVE YOU!”. Did I love him? No. Was it still embarrassing enough for me to write an entire song about it? Apparently!

I hope you enjoy the song and the story behind it! If you did, then feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel for more songs! I don’t post all of my covers here, so you’re missing out!!

Nothing by Drew Gulliver

I said never
You said you’d wait forever
I said always
You said it wouldn’t be a waste

And when I say love
You say so be loved

I said tomorrow
You said you’d follow
I said stay
You brought three bouquets

And when I say love
You say so be loved

When everything is falling apart
We’ll hold on by that one remark
So be loved
So be loved

I said forever
You said never
I said don’t waste this
You said you’ll resist
And when I said love
You said nothing at all
Even though

I said never
You said you’d wait forever
I said always
You said it wouldn’t be a waste
But now when I say love
You say nothing at all
Nothing at all
Nothing at all
